Hello, I am Jheri Kimm. I am excited to help you learn how to introduce your child to the business world. Kids are natural entrepreneurs who quickly learn how to operate their own business. You must teach kids about the basics, such as inventory management, budgeting and marketing, to help them achieve success in this realm. Once kids understand the basics, there is no stopping them from running a multitude of business operations in their neighborhood. Kids can sell lemonade, bracelets, pottery and many other handmade products. Please come back often to discover the best way to assist your child with their business endeavors. Thank you.
If you're a small business owner, then you'll probably want to immerse yourself within all aspects of the production of your product. Packaging is particularly important, as an attractive package can attract customers more easily. You'll most likely heavily rely on the labels on your product for packaging. The labels act like billboards for each product, advertising their main features and providing additional information such as the list of ingredients that are contained within the products or any safety hazards that should be noted. As a result, making sure that the labels stay on without peeling off is of utmost importance. Here are 3 tips for preventing labels from peeling.
Check and Double Check that the Surface is Clean
The first thing you should do before applying the label onto the surface is to make sure that the surface is thoroughly cleaned. Little specks of dirt and dust or grease will prevent the labels from properly adhering. As a result, the labels will peel a lot more easily. Clean the surface with either an all-purpose industrial cleaning and degreasing solution or isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the surface dry with a clean rag, a microfiber cloth or paper towels afterwards.
On top of making sure that the surface is clean, you should also check to see whether the surface where the label is to be applied is at an ideal temperature. The adhesives of the labels should be approximately the same temperature as the surface where they will be applied on. Most manufacturers recommend keeping the application surface between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit before application.
Choose Labels with Round Corners
Labels will easily peel if the corners get snagged onto something. Once one of the corners start to lift, dirt and dust will be able to penetrate the areas underneath the labels and come into contact with the adhesives. The dirt and dust that accumulates on the adhesive coatings will cause the labels to peel off with time.
The easiest solution is to design labels that have round corners instead of sharp corners. Round corners are less likely to snag onto their surroundings, and are, thus, less likely to cause peeling. The round corners will not interfere with the application of the labels and will generally not increase the overall price of the labels by much.
Apply an Overcoat Spray
For extra measures, you can even apply an overcoat protective spray over the labels once they have been applied. Protective sprays are highly recommended for labels that will be used outdoors or for labels that will come into contact with cosmetic products, oils or soaps. This spray will protect the labels from weather elements, and, more importantly, will act as a protective barrier and surface between the label and the external environment. The overcoat spray will also help preserve the printed colors on the labels from handling.
When applying an overcoat spray, make sure to spray just one coat over the labels using a sweeping motion and at an equal distance at all times. This will ensure that the spray is coated on evenly. Generally speaking, you'll want the overcoat spray to be applied via a machine for consistent application and results.
Conclusion
Preventing your labels from peeling is important in making sure that your merchandise will always be properly labeled with the information that your consumers need – whether this be the list of ingredients contained within each product or instructions on how to properly use the product. Quality assurance is a key step in the manufacturing process in making sure that the labels stick onto the products without peeling off. The ideal label will stick onto the product indefinitely throughout the entire lifespan of the product.
